“PAGES FROM A LIFE” Paper ephemera 66” X 12”
PAPER TAPESTRIES
I made the piece to the left after moving from my home of 35 years into a smaller space. As I emptied the attic and sorted box after box of documents, letters, old paintings, mortgage payments, journal pages, receipts, maps, tickets, ephemera from travels, sheet music, etc. I folded these papers and grouped them sequentially, finally tying them all together. The piece is my height and is a journal of sorts. I grew up in the Ozark's and watched my grandmothers and aunts crochet rag rugs with available rags, old dresses and any cloth bits. For me, this piece is reminiscent of those rugs and the instinct to make something from nothing.
